On February 19, 2013, Lam’s body was discovered in one of the hotel’s water tanks after guests started complaining of low pressure and black water. A security camera footage of Lam moments prior to her disappearance saw her behaving strangely inside the elevator— the footage went viral on social media, while the case still remains a mystery. In four one-hour episodes, filmmaker Erin Lee Carr explores the case of two chemists Sonja Frank and Annie Dookhan, and their tampering with evidence at their respective Boston and Western Massachusetts labs.
Frank and Dookhan’s crimes led to the dismissal of tens of thousands of drug counts, including the largest single mass dismissal of criminal cases in the history of the United States.
