5 Mystery Shows To Binge-watch on Netflix Right Now!

Have you watched Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel on Netflix yet? The four-part series takes a deep dive into the case of Elisa Lam, a 21-year old Canadian student at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver who traveled to Los Angeles alone and checked into the Cecil Hotel on January 26, 2013, before disappearing. 

On February 19, 2013, Lam’s body was discovered in one of the hotel’s water tanks after guests started complaining of low pressure and black water. A security camera footage of Lam moments prior to her disappearance saw her behaving strangely inside the elevator— the footage went viral on social media, while the case still remains a mystery. This four-part true crime documentary series on Netflix is about a crime infamously known as the “collar bomb” or “pizza bomber” case.

In 2003, pizza delivery man Brian Douglas Wells visited a branch of the PNC Bank in Erie, Pennsylvania with a bomb attached to him. Wells demanded the teller to give him $250,000. He walked out after getting $8,702 and the explosives eventually blew up before the cops had the chance to defuse it.

Unsolved Mysteries (2020)

Unsolved Mysteries has two seasons with six episodes apiece so far.

The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez (2020) 

This true-crime miniseries on Netflix follows the 2013 murder of eight-year-old Gabriel Fernandez from Palmdale, California. The documentary takes aim at the system that allowed the tragedy to happen.

The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez documents the case the prosecution built against his mother, Pearl Fernandez, and her boyfriend Isauro Aguirre, who had allegedly abused Gabriel. Four social workers were also charged with child abuse and falsifying public records.

How to Fix a Drug Scandal (2020) 

In four one-hour episodes, filmmaker Erin Lee Carr explores the case of two chemists Sonja Frank and Annie Dookhan, and their tampering with evidence at their respective Boston and Western Massachusetts labs.

Frank and Dookhan’s crimes led to the dismissal of tens of thousands of drug counts, including the largest single mass dismissal of criminal cases in the history of the United States.
