Since the weekend, Hollywood has been mourning for Ed Asner who passed away at 91 years old. According to his family, the actor passed away peacefully in their family home. “We are sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away this morning peacefully,” a tweet made on his verified account said.
“Words cannot express the sadness we feel. With a kiss on your head- Goodnight dad. We love you,” it ended. (Read: Comforting Prayers for a Loss of Loved One)
Among the celebrities who mourned Asner’s passing were Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family), Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story), and Sarah Jessica Parker (Hocus Pocus) who posted a black and white photo of the actor on her Instagram.

From 1970 to 1982, Asner portrayed Lou Grant, a producer (later editor) for a fictional newspaper, in the series “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and its spin-off “Lou Grant”. Through the role, the late actor was able to become one of the few TV actors who was able to play the same character in both a comedy and a drama.
He won five Emmy awards just for the role of Lou Grant alone!

In the 2003 Christmas film, Elf, the actor played the iconic gift-bringer himself, Santa Claus! His character was the one who found Buddy–played by Will Ferrell–in his sack and gave him to Father Elf to raise as his own. The veteran actor lent his voice to the widowed character who was adamant in going to Paradise Falls to fulfill his and his wife’s dream.
