These Comments on Taste Atlas’ Filipino Food Ranking Will Make You Laugh Out Loud

After ranking sinigang as the world’s best vegetable soup, Taste Atlas recently released a Filipino Food Ranked list on its Facebook page consisting of the best, great, okay, and worst Filipino food.

Although everyone has their own preferences and there are no specific criteria for cooking Filipino dishes, food discussion can be personal or a serious topic that might turn into a debate for some.

And speaking of debate, Filipino netizens expressed their disagreement and mixed reactions on the latest Filipino food ranking by Taste Atlas! It seems like many of them are not having it after seeing tocino ranked higher than lechon and sisig

Why tocino?

Tocino made it to the top list with 4.7 stars, along with lumpiang shanghai (4.9) and sinigang (4.8). Taste Atlas described it “as slices of meat doused in different combinations of spices and seasonings, which typically include sugar, salt, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, anise wine, and pineapple or orange juice.” Many are confused why tocino is on the top three “best” Pinoy dishes. Netizens can’t help but to air out their frustrations.

Sisig, adobo, and lechon deserve better

For the “great” tier, the most well-loved Filipino dishes sisig (4.4), adobo (4.3), and lechon (4.2) made to the list! Several netizens can’t accept that tocino got a higher ranking than these three staples. They even jokingly clamor for better rankings! Meanwhile, some said that sisig shouldn’t be drizzled with mayonnaise and topped with egg. Do you agree? (Read: Love lechon? Here are four fun facts about this Pinoy favorite!)

Dinuguan warriors came to defend their favorite dish! It ranked lowest under the “worst” category with 3.3 stars together with balut (2.6) and pinipig (3.3). Netizens questioned the ranking of dinuguan, claiming that the food critics who ranked the dishes are probably Filipinos who never lived in the Philippines, or maybe their moms are not good at cooking dinuguan

Balut is not the worst

The fans of the exotic food balut are also furious with the ranking as it only received 2.6 stars. They keep wondering why some people hate balut, when it is considered the most common and accessible Filipino food! Netizens reiterated “taste before you judge,” while some said that vinegar plays an important role in enjoying the taste of balut. (Read: 3 Filipino Street Food Recipes You Can Make at Home)
