Over the past few months, a handful of tourist spots around the country have been gradually opening up as vaccinated individuals are increasing in numbers. Of course, more protocols are now being observed and more preparations are needed for travellers and the tourist destinations alike.
But indeed, more fun awaits. And that exactly is what the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) new campaign, “More Fun Awaits”, is all about. The campaign aims for Philippine tourist destinations to continue being one of the top choices of both local and international travellers. “The More Fun Awaits campaign will sustain the presence of the Philippines as a tourist destination amidst the pandemic while getting foreign travellers excited about what’s in store for them once borders for tourism reopen,” says DOT Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat.
Highlighting the Philippines
The campaign consists of videos that show how the department is preparing our tourist destinations around the country for its reopening. It also features products that are truly Pinoy-made.
Apart from the destinations, More Fun Awaits also highlights the various tourist activities one can do in the country. Hiking, trekking, museum visits, bike tours, and food tours are just some of the activities that are featured in the campaign. (Read: 3 Ways to Practice Responsible Tourism Amid Pandemic)
And of course, it also emphasizes how the DOT, in partnership with all these destinations, are putting importance on everyone’s safety especially amid the pandemic. “Through the More Fun Awaits campaign, we want to communicate that the Philippines prioritizes the safety and well-being of visitors, as many of our tourism establishments are compliant with global safety standards, and a large percentage of our tourism workers are already vaccinated,” Secretary Puyat shares.
‘Ambassadors of Fun’
The DOT also encourages the public to become Ambassadors of Fun, and promote their hometowns on different social media platforms.
The public will become “tour guides” of their own provinces and cities by suggesting must-visit places, must-try food, and must-see attractions. It aims to encourage travellers to visit these places, and even the lesser known destinations, when the situation improves.
People can join by posting a video or photo of the destination on their TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, and tagging the official accounts of DOT. The hashtags you’ll need in the caption are #MoreFunAwaits and #ItsMoreFunInThePhilippines. Chosen photos and videos will be shared by the department on their social media pages.
