WATCH: Steve From Blue’s Clues Returns To Show, Left The Internet Sobbing

The internet were left in nostalgia as Steve Burns, the original host of Blue’s Clues, returned to the show for its 25th year anniversary.

Sending a heartfelt message to all his fans who grew up with him and Blue, Steve took viewers– who are now millennials and Gen-Zs– to a trip down memory lane when he appeared in a lighter green striped polo, similar to his original outfit in the show. In a 2-minute video, the former kid’s show host also addressed his “abrupt” exit way back in 2002.

Blue’s Clues first premiered on Nick Jr. in 1996. It follows an animated blue-spotted dog named Blue as she leaves a trail of clues and paw prints for Steve and the viewers to figure out her plans for the day, which has been the all-time favorite childhood show of the 90’s kids. In 2019, the show got a reboot and was renamed Blue’s Clues & You! hosted by Filipino-American Josh dela Cruz, who played Steve and Joe’s cousin.

Nostalgic and emotional

After hosting over 100 episodes, Steve left the show in 2002 and was replaced by Donovan Patton, who played as his brother named Joe. Although the plot has mentioned that Steve was going to college, the viewers continue to miss his appearance on the show and wonder whether he will come back or not.

“Remember how when we were younger, we used to run around and hang out with Blue and find clues and talk to Mr. Salt and freak out about the mail and do all the fun stuff? And then one day I was like, ‘Oh hey, guess what? I’m leaving. This is my brother Joe, he’s your new best friend.’ Then I got on the bus and left,” he recalled. Steve said that he realized that it was kind of abrupt. “And that was really challenging, by the way, but great because I got to use my mind and take a step at a time. And now I literally am doing many of the things that I wanted to do. And then look at you, and look at all you have done and all you have accomplished in all that time,” he continued.

Aside from the nostalgia it gives, many got emotional upon hearing those words from Steve, which reminds us how time flew so fast and how many things have happened in each other’s lives, including his.

Steve went on to share his experiences that everyone can definitely relate to, especially these days. (Read: Hey, 90’s Kids! Don’t You Wish These Fast Food Items Would Make A Comeback?)

“And it’s just so amazing, right? I mean, we started out with clues. And now it’s what? Student loans, and jobs, and families. And some of it has been kind of hard, you know? I know you know. I wanted to tell you that I really could not have done all of that without your help,” he expressed.

A lot of netizens reminisced the days when everyone would just sit on the couch and watch the show, helping Steve solve the clues left by Blue. Now, we are all figuring out our own lives, focusing on our studies, jobs, and families as adults.

The closure our generation needs

Since Steve left the show, rumors about him have resurfaced despite his appearance on several shows. It is time to make things clear.

“In fact, all the help that you helped me with when we were younger is still helping me today, right now. And that’s super cool. I guess I just wanted to say that after all these years, I never forgot you. Ever. And I’m super great we’re still friends.” he added.

“You look great by the way. Whatever it is you’re doing, it’s working,” Steve said as he ended the video message. (Read: Eight leadership values we can learn from these popes’ childhood memories)

And for many fans of the show who witnessed Steve’s departure, the 2-minute video is enough. Knowing that Steve still remembers us and acknowledges our journey over the years, is a very much-needed closure that melts our hearts and heals our inner child.
